It’s not even your money, it’s the bank’s. Technically. As soon as you hand it to the bank, it becomes the bank’s money, and you get an IOU represented by the number in your account. The only reason we think this IOU is money is because it usually functions the same way - the bank usually repays you the amount you need on demand, or sends it directly to the merchant you’re buying from. When banks go insolvent, that’s when the illusion starts to break.
